This was a project for my Games Programming module ne the 2nd semester of my 1st year at LYIT. In this module we had to create a game using David Brackeen’s Tile Game Engine from Chapter 5 of his book 'Developing Games in Java'.
Here are some screens of the original game we had to work with.
The game I created can be downloaded below. My class was divided into teams for this project and we had to see which team could produce the best game. There was 2 people in my team - Me and Michael. Our game was voted best in the class and an article was written about it in a local newspaper, 'The Donegal News'. The game can be seen below and the article can be downloaded here. Most graphics are our own but the main characters were taken from a Sonic the Hedgehog Sprite Sheet from the internet. All sounds used in the game are not my own and were taken from various sources on the net.
Here are some screen shots of my of my game.
Dr Robotnik has kidnapped knuckles and the chaose emerald. In this 3 level demo you must resuce Knuckles and then retrieve 2 of the stolen chaos emeralds and then finally defeat Dr Robotnik.
This version of the game can be downloaded here.
To play, exract the zip file and open the jar file.
The article from the Donegal News can be seen here.
It was my original plan to re-write this entire game into C++ using OpenGL but the 2.5D Platform Engine that I have developed more recently build a more visually impressive game and has a lot more functionality.
